Trap Creek: We restored about 1.2 miles of this stream to improve salmon spawning. This stream supports one of the largest salmon populations in Pacific County. However, the full potential of this stream was not being utilized due to some flood damage caused to the stream that removed the Large Woody Debris (LWD). This resulted in loss of spawning gravel. The purpose of this project was to restore the LWD so gravel could be recruited and retained. We observed an increase in spawning salmon after construction was completed.

This stream presented a design challenge because of the high energy of the stream. The watershed Co., and project designers, met this challenge by developing a design that improved the spawning capability while maintaining the existing spots were spawning was occurring. There was also a construction challenge, equipment was not allowed in or near the stream, so the LWD was placed by "high line" method. NDC Timber accomplished this effort on time and under budget. Photos show the placed LWD and a log with root wad being moved into place.
