Lewis and Porter Points Fish Ladders: These two ladders are located on the Willapa National Refuge, managed by US Fish Wildlife, Charlie Stenvall There was a dike that block about 2.5 miles of spawning habitat for Chum and Coho, which has been blocked off since about 1920. This dike provides important winter-feeding for the ducks and geese that use this area. The design challenge was to provide salmon access while maintaining the wildlife habitat. Constructing two fish ladders for salmon access met the habitat goals. The design was completed in Jan 2001 and construction was completed in Oct 2001. Photos show the fish ladders under construction.
