Forward and Acknowledgements
The Willapa Bay Fisheries Enhancement Group (WBFEG) has been accomplishing habitat and fisheries enhancement for 16 years. This document represents our data, work experience, along with many others in the Willapa Bay watershed. There have been several "strategy" documents developed in the Willapa Bay watershed; WBFEG has been an integral part of all those drafts and developments. Many of our Board Members and officers were key members and leaders of those efforts. This document is the direct outcome of all that effort.
In recent years WBFEG was responsible for the development of "The Willapa Bay Strategic Salmon Plan" by Golder Associates, August 2000. That document incorporated the efforts of the Willapa Alliance: CD Tool Box, Indicators Document 1998, and A vision for the Recovery of Willapa Salmon, Pacific Conservation District stream survey data, North River Watershed analysis, Upper Willapa River Watershed Analysis, Weyerhaeuser, and the Palix Watershed Analysis, Rayonier Timber. The July 2000 Limiting Factors Report, Washington State Conservation Commission, utilized all the documents data in the Willapa Bay in their report.
WBFEG, funded by Pacific County, hired Applied Environmental Services to revise and update the 2000 Recovery Plan, and produce the Pacific County (WRIA 24) Strategic Plan for Salmon Recovery, June 2001. We wish to acknowledge all their work and the help they received from Skagit Watershed Council.
We have extensively utilized all of these referenced works in the development of our strategy document.
We welcome all readers of this document to utilize any and all the data within the document, as it is our goal to develop partnerships within the Willapa Bay by sharing our data and experience.
The Willapa Bay Fisheries Enhancement Group's vision is restoring naturally spawning salmon to the streams in the Willapa Bay to sustainable levels. The following pages show how our strategy will accomplish this vision.
